Why I'm Running for Secretary of GANS: Serving the Nepali Community in Austin
Austin is home to one of the fastest-growing Nepali communities in Texas. As our community expands across Austin, Leander, Manor, Pflugerville, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Georgetown, and the greater Austin metro area, so does our need for strong, organized, and servant-hearted leadership within GANS — the Greater Austin Nepali Society.
Who I Am and Why I'm Running
My name is Roshan Budhathoki. I am a licensed REALTOR®, proudly the first Nepali real estate broker in Austin, Texas, serving the city and surrounding communities. I am running for Secretary of GANS because I believe in showing up — with intention, consistency, and heart.
What the Secretary Role Means to Me
The Secretary is the backbone of any organization. It is the person who keeps records, communicates updates, coordinates meetings, and ensures nothing falls through the cracks. For a community like ours — diverse, busy, and spread across a large metro area — this role is critical. I bring the organizational discipline and professional communication skills from my real estate career to ensure GANS operates smoothly and transparently.
My Commitment to the Nepali Community in Austin
Over the years, I have helped dozens of Nepali families find homes in Austin, Manor, Pflugerville, Round Rock, Hutto, Cedarpark, Leander, Georgetown, and surrounding areas. Through my work with AREAA Austin and the Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce, I understand what it means to advocate for our community at every level. If elected as GANS Secretary, I will maintain clear and timely communication, keep accurate records of meetings and decisions, and make sure every member feels heard and informed.
My Vision for a Stronger GANS in Greater Austin
If elected as Secretary, I will focus on practical, result-driven initiatives that directly benefit Nepali families across Austin and Central Texas:
Stronger Community Voice: Actively advocate for our needs at the city, county, and state levels so issues related to housing, opportunities, education, and fair policies are heard by local decision-makers.
Unity with Sister Organizations: Build close partnerships with Gurung Samaj, New Pucha, Satsang America, Austin Nepali Professionals, and all other Nepali groups in the Greater Austin area.
Youth Empowerment: Promote volunteerism and leadership opportunities for our youth to keep them connected to Nepali culture while preparing them for success in Texas.
Support for Nepali Businesses: Provide better exposure and encouragement to Nepali-owned businesses serving the community in Austin, Hutto, Pflugerville, Leander, Georgetown, Cedarpark, Pflugerville, Round Rock, and beyond.
Excellent Events & Transparency: Organize well-planned, compliant, and meaningful events while maintaining clear communication with all GANS members.
This is not about holding a title. It is deeply personal for my family and me. Having walked the immigrant journey ourselves, we are fully committed to building a stronger, more united, and prosperous Nepali community in Greater Austin.
